BASSOONAPALOOZA 2014 is on Sunday June 22nd

Due to a few conflicts and artist scheduling BASOONAPALOOZA 2014 will now be held on Sunday June 22nd from 10-5 at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts.  The line up of bassoon faculty giving master classes on reed making, chamber music, and solo bassoon performing will be:  

Dr. Christopher Wickham, Rutgers University 

Roger Nye, NY Philharmonic

NY based bassoon duo Dark and Stormy-  Adrian Morejon and Rebekah Heller

More details to come as the event nears including the first ever audition based group the NJ ALL STAR BASSOON ENSEMBLE!

 

Dr. W Studio Recital Scheduled for December 13th

 

Dr. Wickham's Fall Studio Recial

December 13th @ 2pm- Highland Park Senior/Youth Center in Highland Park, NJ

Come hear the students of Dr. W perform solo, chamber, and large ensemble works (some on secondary instruments)  as they give back to the community sharing their love of music with the Seniors at the Highland  Park Senior Youth Center.  This concert is free and there will be a reception to follow.   

 

Bassoonapalooza is set for June 14, 2014

Because of the huge success of last years event with more than 25 bassoonists we are going to make this years Bassoonapalooza even better than ever with more guest artists and classes!  The Finale concert will have a massive bassoon choir piece (just like last year) and performances by multiple bassoon ensembles from Rutgers as well as an auditioned group of high school students in the area (NJ Bassoon All-Stars).

 Be ready for master classes with some fantastic bassoon players in the NE area!

Meet the Rutgers University Undergrad Bassoon Ensemble- BACOUSTICS!

Under the direction of Dr. Wickham, the bassoon ensemble "Bacoustics" is made up of all undergraduate students majoring in music at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts.  The primary purpose of the undergraduate bassoon ensemble is to develop skills needed for successful for bassoon playing in a chamber music setting.  Bacoustics is an ensemble committed to promoting bassoonery throughout the state of New Jersey though educational outreach concerts at public schools.  If you are interested in having Bacoustics come to your school this Fall please send an email to Christopherwickham@gmail.com to schedule a time on one of our 2 tour dates, October 28 and November 11.

Back from Band Director Workshops!

I just got back from the Vivace camp in Kutztown! Got to hang out with the band and visual directors at U Mass, West Chester University, and U of Delaware and just soak it all up... and of course the fantastic Todd Marcocci and Adam Gumble which made the week that much more AMAZING!  Stay tuned for more posts and blogs about Marching Band AND BASSOON as the summer continues from the Dr. W studio.

Billy Short Master Class @ Bassoonapaloosa

Due to a last min. schedule change with the NY Phil, Roger Nye will be unable to teach one of the master classes at this weekends Bassoonapaloosa.  Instead my colleague and friend Billy Short, principal of the Met Opera Orchestra, will be giving a class!!!  This event keeps getting more exciting by the day!  Please note the change and see you at 10am this Saturday at Rutgers.

This is your last chance to be part of the very first BASSOONAPALOOSA at Rutgers University!  Sign up for this special bassoon event for bassoonists of ALL levels, beginning to advanced professionals.  Please print out the parts appropriate to your ability level for the finale bassoon choir performance of The Sorcere's Apprentice.  Use the link below to both register and obtain parts.

Please note- select a part that you feel most comfortable playing from Bassoon 1-5.  ! being the most difficult and 5 the easiest.  Dont worry if you dont have enough time to prepare as there will be a sectional rehearsal and bassoon choir rehearsal for the piece throughout the course of the day.  Do your best to learn the part that you feel is appropriate to your ability level.  Middle school and beginning players should select Bassoon 5.  I still need a few more players on Bassoon 1!

Make sure you and your friends register so we can make sure to have enough lunch for everyone.  Bring your bassoons for an amazing day of BASSOONERY!  See you all this Saturday!!!

Dr. Wickham's 1st Annual All-Day Bassoon Workshop

 Bassoonapalosa-  June 15, 2013 

10am-6pm  @  Nicholas Music Center, New Brunswick,NJ

Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts Extension Division is hosting the very first all-day bassoon workshop.  There will be masterclasses given by the Rutgers University bassoon faculty Dr. Wickham and Roger Nye, classes on reed-making, audition taking techniques, chamber and solo performance opportunities, and a finale recital including student performances including the largest bassoon choir to ever hit the stage of Nicholas Auditorium! All ages and abilities are welcome to attend.
